Dental Office Updates and Additional Protective Measures for Covid-19

Beyond the CDC's standards for COVID-19, our team is taking extra precautions to keep you healthy.

 

Simplified Mobile Check-In

While our waiting room is temporarily closed, we offer mobile check-in for patients by phone. Simply give us a call at 701-258-3308 and we will let you know when we’re ready for your appointment.

Paperless Covid-19 Patient Health Screening Station

We’ve added a screening station in our reception area (in place of the coffee bar) for a quick but thorough check-up. Upon your arrival, we will have a few questions about travel, exposure, and symptoms. You can also complete the COVID-19 Questionaire online.

Thermometers and Pulse Oximeters

We will also check your temperature with a touchless thermometer and use a pulse oximeter (you know that little thing that squeezes your finger tip).

 

Fast Dental Appointment Check-In

Your appointment check-ins and check-outs will be ultra quick. You’ll notice hand sanitizer, sneeze guards and added physical distancing for your protection -though we definitely miss all of the high-fives, handshakes, and hugs. *Reminds self: this is temporary

Surgically Clean Air Purifiers 

Let’s clear the air, these aren’t robots they’re Surgically Clean Air Purifiers! We’ve added world-class air purifiers to all common areas and closed-door treatment rooms! They feature 6-stage filters to remove chemicals, toxins, germs, and odors. Most importantly, these medical-grade air purifiers kill airborne viruses and bacteria, to help reduce the spread of illness. 

 

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) 

We’ve added more PPE for the entire team including N95 masks, face shields and gowns. Our N95 masks were all professionally fit tested at Sanford Health in Bismarck, ND. Having the PPE is one thing, but understanding how to wear it, change it and handle it is what makes it effective.

 

Stacks of Fresh Lab Coats 

We know that aerosols can stick to garments so we’ve added extra lab coats along with professional laundry service to be sure we’ve always got a fresh layer to wear for every patient. 

 

Patience & Understanding

We understand that you’ve waited a long time for your appointment due to Covid-19 shutdowns and are eager to serve you once again. We are working hard to reschedule hundreds of patients based on dental emergencies and the order the appointments were originally cancelled. Please be patient with us as we adjust to the new protocols (it takes us twice as long just getting dressed). We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Is it Safe to See My Dentist During a Pandemic?

Yes, it is generally safe to see your dentist during a pandemic. We prioritize your health and safety above all else and are already well prepared for the threat of a virus. As health care professionals, we’re trained to manage communicable diseases and have added additional protocols that go far beyond the CDC’s highest standards of infection control practices.

What if the CDC Restricts Dental Care to Emergency Only Procedures?

A dentist is a specialist who works to diagnose, treat, and prevent health problems however, there are times when it’s prudent to restrict dental procedures to “Emergency Only”. We will continue to monitor and follow the CDC’s guidlines for infection control

What is Considered a Dental Emergency?

As it related to Covid-19 restrictions for dental appointments, a dental emergency may be defined by the following criteria: 

  • Infection in the mouth
  • Swelling
  • Intense Pain
  • Trauma

What is an Aerosol?

An aerosol is a small partical that can remain airborn for hours. Tehy are subject to inhalation unless protective measures are in place. Protective measure against aerosols in the dental office include Perosonal Protective Equiptment (PPE) and Surgically Clean Air Purifiers. We use all of the above!

When should I call to Reschedule an Existing Appointment?

Please give us a call to reschedule your exisiting appointment if you:

  • Have a fever 100 or higher
  • Have shortness of breath or upper respiratory infection
  • Have been exposed to a known case of COVID-19
  • Have been told to self-quarantine by any other entity
  • Have been to a known hot spot location in the last 14 days
  • Are not feeling well or feel that you are in a high-risk group (over 60 or comorbidities)

How Do I Take Care of My Teeth During if I Miss an Appointment Due to Covid-19?

The Covid-19 shutdowns and quarantines mean that everyone gets a little extra homework keep theire mouth healthy until their next appointment. Here’s what you can do to keep your smile healthy:

  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day, and floss at least once per day.
  • Eat Clean. Your diet plays an important role in your overall health.
  • Avoid sugar. Sugar increases the amount of bacteria that grows in your mouth causing more plaque and possibly cavities.
  • Avoid tobacco. Smoking and chewing can stain your teeth, cause gum disease, and eventually lead to oral cancer.
  • Brush your tongue and the roof of your mouth to reduce the amount of plaque-causing bacteria.
  • Drinks plenty of water
  • Be quick to swap out your toothbrush 
  • Store your toothbrush away from other toothbrushes (and away from the toilet).
